Our History In 1989, a handfull of Indiana businesswomen were looking for a way to increase the number of Republican women involved in the political process. They were concerned that women were not well represented in elected and appointed offices at the local, state and federal levels. Judy Singleton and Terese Lubbers turned to United States Senator Richard G. Lugar to help them create a new program - the result was the Richard G. Lugar Excellence in Public Service Series. Since its inception, the program has been replicated in nearly 20 states. These programs have the support of the Republican National Committee through co-chairman Ann Wagner's Winning Women initiative. More than 1,000 women, ranging in ages from 21 - 65, have come through the Excellence in Public Service Series. These successful graduates have gone on to become party organization officials, board and commission officers, campaign managers and finance directors, and officeholders in local, state and national elective and appointive positions. |
